Gender-informed assessment and treatment approaches with women who sexually offend

Franca Cortoni

This workshop will present the details of the evidence that indicates the need for a gender-informed approach to the assessment and treatment of women who have sexually offended. It will then present an empirically informed model for their assessment of risk of recidivism and treatment needs. It will conclude with a review of empirically supported treatment practices with women to understand how best to approach interventions with female sexual offenders. As relevant, a contrast with male-based information will be provided.

Franca Cortoni is a clinical forensic psychologist and professor of clinical criminology at the School of Criminology at the Université de Montréal.
